Phuket Vegetarian Festival
" Phuket Vegetarian Festival" .This is one of the bigest festival in Phuket, attracting visitors to join physical and spiritual purification through vegetarianism. During this time, Chiness community pratice 10 days vegan diet for the purpose of spiritual cleansing and merit-making. One of the most exciting aspects of the festival is the various, ceremonies which are held to invoke the gods. Firewalking, body piercing and other acts of self mortification undertaken by participants acting as mediums of the gods.
Po Tor Festival ( Hungry Ghost Festival )
Por Tor Festival, a celebration of 'hungry ghosts' by Phuket's Chinese community. It is believed that at the start of the seventh Chinese lunar month, the ghosts of ancestors are released from the spirit world back into their earthly homes. The wandering ghosts offer a chance for descendants to show their gratitude to their forebears by 'feeding' them treats and paper money.
Many homes around the island are abuzz with feasts and festivities and many gather at Chinese shrines around the island, particularly the Por Tor Kong Shrine near Saphan Hin in Phuket City, to make merit and watch theatre performances based on the Por Tor legends. Beautifully designed red turtle cakes, considered to represent longevity, are sold at several local shops. (call TAT office for its schedule at 076-212213)
Phuket Heritage Town
Phuket town have the long history from 1st century B.C. by colonists from India Since the 16th century, the Europeans have been interested in the tin trade of Phuket. The called the island 'Junk Ceylon' (Ujong Thalang). Tin mining boomed, and the very capable and benevolent governor Rasada Korsimbi helped diversify the island's economy and the capital city of Phuket began its modern expansion.
Phuket Sunday Walking Street
Phuket Walking Street held on Thalang Road in Phuket Old Town. The street now have many restaurants, bars and guesthouses. The street open on 16.00 - 22.00. The event gathers number of stall selling food especailly Phuket traditional food, souvenirs and handcraft.
